Dear Members of IBEW Local 993,

As my time as Business Manager comes to an end, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the membership of IBEW Local 993.

Serving as your Business Manager has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support you have shown me, and for the opportunity you gave me to represent this Local and work on behalf of our members. This role has carried a great deal of responsibility, and I have never taken lightly the confidence placed in me by the membership.

IBEW 993 is a strong Local because of the people who make it up. Our members are skilled, hardworking, dedicated, and proud of the trade we represent. Across our jurisdiction, I have had the privilege of meeting with members on the job, in the hall, at meetings, and in communities throughout our Local. I have listened to your concerns, shared in your successes, and stood with you through challenges. Those experiences have meant a great deal to me, and they have always reminded me of what makes this union so important.

During my time as Business Manager, IBEW 993 has moved forward through a time of prosperity and growth. I am proud of the work that has been done, and I am proud of where our Local stands today. Our Local is in great health. Our finances are healthy and in order, our work outlook is fantastic, and our membership continues to be well positioned for the future. I believe I am leaving IBEW 993 in better condition than when I first had the honour of stepping into this role.

One of the things I am especially proud of is seeing so many apprentices make the transition into becoming certified journeypersons. Under my time as Business Manager, many apprentices completed their training and received their Red Seal certification. For some, that path took encouragement, support, and sometimes a little prodding, but seeing those members reach that important milestone has been incredibly rewarding. Those Red Seal certifications represent years of hard work, commitment, and perseverance, and they help ensure that our Local remains strong for the next generation.

That progress did not happen by accident, and it did not happen because of one person alone. It was made possible by the commitment of our members, the work of our officers and staff, the dedication of our stewards and executive board members, and the many committee members and volunteers who give their time to help strengthen this Local. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has played a part in moving IBEW 993 forward.

As I look back on my time as Business Manager, I am proud of what we have accomplished together. We have continued to protect and promote the interests of our members, support good union jobs, strengthen our position in the industry, encourage the development of apprentices, and maintain the values that have always been at the heart of the IBEW. There have been challenges along the way, but through those challenges, this Local has remained strong, united, and focused on serving the membership.

Although my time in this role is coming to a close, my respect and appreciation for IBEW 993 and its members will remain. This Local has a proud history, a strong present, and a bright future. I wish Brother Will Currams, the officers, staff, and the entire membership continued success as IBEW 993 moves into its next chapter.

Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Business Manager. It has truly been an honour, and I will always be grateful for the trust you placed in me.

In solidarity,
Jim Bicknell
