How a $9M Investment Is Helping Building North Carolina’s Electrical Workforce

Categories: IBEW

Getting young people interested in the electrical trades is only part of the challenge. The next step is creating a pathway that can take them from training to a real career.

Electric TV’s newest feature explores how that pipeline is taking shape in North Carolina. Through Careers Electric and its Careers Electric/IBEW Pre-Apprenticeship program, young people are getting an opportunity to experience the electrical industry and begin preparing for a future in the trade.

Behind that effort is a $9 million Siemens grant aimed at strengthening North Carolina’s electrical workforce and developing a model with potential for broader expansion.

NECA Affiliated Contractors, IBEW Local 553 and its JATC have helped bring the pieces together by connecting training with employment opportunities and introducing graduates to the union electrical industry. The story culminates in a celebration of dozens of graduates alongside business leaders, policymakers, and the organizations that helped create the program.

It’s a look at what can happen when investment, training, organized labor, and industry work together to build a stronger workforce.
