Siemens Canada to wind down Peterborough manufacturing, expand Concord operations

June 25, 2025 – To increase global competitiveness and facilitate automation business growth, Siemens Canada announced it will wind down production at its Peterborough, Ont., facility and optimize its Concord, Ont., facility.

“These actions are necessary for Siemens’ industrial automation business to become more competitive in a challenging market environment with increased competitive pressures,” the company stated in a press release. “The optimization and consolidation help to position the Canadian operations for growth by allowing for more synergies across its local and global supply chains, and enabling the organization to respond more quickly to customer and market demands.”

Over a 2-year transition period, Siemens will wind down manufacturing at the Peterborough factory. The manufacture of Measurement Intelligence technologies currently carried out in Peterborough will move to the Concord facility, which manufactures the company’s RuggedCom portfolio of communications equipment.

These moves are expected to affect about 160 manufacturing positions in Peterborough. The Measurement Intelligence business roles—such as product management, research & development teams—are expected to remain in Peterborough as part of a global team.

“Siemens is committed to supporting employees who are affected and will implement a comprehensive support program to assist employees during this period of change,” says the company. “Siemens in Canada has been consistently growing over the past years […] and currently has approximately 100 open positions to be filled.”

To enable the production of Measurement Intelligence product lines being transferred to Concord, roughly 70 new manufacturing positions are estimated to be created. Siemens will continue manufacturing communication systems in Concord.

The full transition will take place over a 2-year period, ending September 2027.
