Happy International Women’s Day! Today we celebrate the women in our lives, both on and off the job. With growing demand in Security, Data and Environmental Controls, as well as most other sectors of the Electrical Industry, we need more women on our jobsites! We can and we will do better to support equity in the trade!

In partnership with the Western JETS, IBEW local 1003 has been working to reduce apprenticeship training barriers through initiatives like the Workplace Alternative Trades Training (WATT) project and several other publicly funded programs to ensure access to high-quality, relevant, demand-driven pre-apprenticeship training.

The federal government’s Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy recognized our success in training and supporting under-represented groups in the trade with an unprecedented continuation rate of 95%, and invested in a new program to specifically support female-identifying apprentices.

The WIRED Project seeks to recruit, provide training and support the upward mobility of women in our trade. We are committed to the success of our members and signatory contractors; this includes providing equitable opportunity for all through programs such as this one. If you know any  bright, hard-working women in our jurisdiction who have the drive to be successful as IBEW Electricians, please refer them to to apply today. If they successfully complete training and enter into membership, you can receive a $100 referral bonus/finder’s fee courtesy of the WIRED Project & Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy. It’s up to each and every one of us to ensure that our sites are safe, diverse, equitable and inclusive.
