With the upcoming Federal Election, it’s important that members of IBEW 993 are informed on the choices we have available to us.

Party Policies and How They Affect Unions

As members of a trade union, there some party policies that will directly affect you.

Union Rights & Membership

Strong pro-union stance – supports anti-scab laws, strengthens collective bargaining.

Support for unions. Came through with promise to repeale Bills C-377 and C-525 which would have hurt unions across Canada.

Supports “Right to Work” laws, which weaken unions and allow non-union workers to take union jobs.

Apprenticeship & Training

Expands funding for union-led apprenticeships.

Investment in training programs, but less emphasis on unions.

Shifts training to private sector, reducing union control over certifications.

Green Energy & Climate Policies

Strongest investment in renewables (solar, wind, geothermal, battery storage).

Moderate investment in clean energy, phasing out fossil fuel subsidies.

Focus on oil, gas, and pipelines; less emphasis on renewables.

Wages & Labour Standards

Wants higher minimum wage, pension protections, and stronger EI benefits.

Some wage protections, but not as strong as NDP.

Supports cutting business regulations, which could reduce workplace safety and wages.

Privatization & Public-Private Partnerships (P3s)

Opposes privatization and P3s, ensuring public projects use union labour.

Supports some public investment but allows private sector involvement.

Encourages privatization and P3s, which could reduce union jobs.

Buy Canadian / Job Protection

Strong Buy Canadian policy, prioritizing local materials and jobs.
