Day of Mourning 2026 – Electrical Workers Local 993
Categories: BC, IBEW, Local 993
One of the most important days of recognition for workers in the construction industry is the National Day of Mourning.
Each year on April 28, workers, families, unions, employers, and community members gather at ceremonies across British Columbia and across Canada to honour those who have lost their lives, suffered injury, or become ill because of their work.
For those of us in construction, this day carries a special meaning. We work in an industry where safety must always come first, and where every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day. The Day of Mourning is a time to remember the workers who did not make it home, to support the families and co-workers who continue to feel that loss, and to renew our shared commitment to safer workplaces for everyone.
On April 28, please take a moment out of your day to attend a Day of Mourning ceremony near you.
One of the most meaningful ceremonies in Canada takes place right here in Kamloops, at the Kia Room in the Sandman Centre. However, there are also many ceremonies being held throughout British Columbia for those who are unable to attend in Kamloops.
The Day of Mourning BC website provides a list of ceremonies across the province, making it easy to find the event closest to you.
Let us take the time to remember, reflect, and recommit ourselves to the work that still needs to be done. Every worker deserves to come home safe.
