National Day of Mourning – 1620

Categories: IBEW, IBEW 1620, Newfoundland and Labrador

April 28 is our National Day of Mourning. This year’s
theme is Mourn the dead – Fight for the living.

This is my “stay at home” sign of solidarity to keep workers safe and remember fallen workers.

On this day, we observe the memory of those killed or injured at work. We will always continue to fight for stronger safety legislation, enforcement, and personal protective equipment.  This has always been a cornerstone of everything we do; to ensure all workers make it home at the end of the day.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and work. This year, more than ever before, it is important to highlight the rights workers have to protect themselves.

Check out this important eye-opening video of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour:

Thank you to NLFL President Mary Shortall and the Federation; safety ambassadors that never give up for all workers.

In line with the St. John’s and District Labour Council, we encourage everyone to show our solidarity with frontline workers and remember fallen workers by lighting a candle in our homes and posting a photo to social media with the hashtag #WorkersDayofMourning and #StopthePandemicAtWork.

We must do more together to keep workers safe!
