Labour Day Message from IVP Russ Shewchuk
Categories: BC, IBEW, Local 213
Workers have always had a profound impact on communities across the country and around the world.
Fighting for better working conditions, health and safety on the job, better wages and pension plans so that they can retire with dignity.
Over the last year, workers have stood up for what they believe in and what they deserve. We saw the largest strike in our nation’s history with 150,000 Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members going on strike, to the Port Workers in BC, and IBEW Local Union members also taking job action and going on strike for a better agreement from their employer. We must remember to stand in solidarity with our fellow Brothers and Sisters in the labour movement.
Labour Day has a rich history and one we should be proud of and proud to continue to work for and honour those that came before us. Those that fought for the 8-hour workday, vacation days, sick days, maternity and parental leave, the Canada Pension Plan and so much more. For those that stood on the picket line to improve our collective agreements. I would encourage our members to join a Labour Day parade or celebratory event in your area.
IBEW 213 members in the Lower Mainland, join us for the BC Building Trades Labour Day Picnic!

I would like to wish each and every one of you an enjoyable and safe Labour Day weekend. Take the time to enjoy your family and friends and to put aside the stresses of your everyday work life.
In solidarity,
Russ Shewchuk
