Local 213 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW 213) is seeking to fill one (1) position for a temporary full-time Field Organizer.

Job Description:

Through gained work experience, inherent ability, perceptive recognition and continuing education, the person performing at this temporary full-time position (with the possibility of becoming a permanent position) will be successful in introducing potential targeted workers to the ideals and benefits of becoming a unionized worker and assist in the process of certifying a company’s workforce into a bargaining unit on a project-by-project basis. 

The successful candidate will identify, investigate and assess organizing leads and targets; plan, build and implement strategic organizing campaigns for the purpose to increase IBEW 213 membership; perform site visits for the purpose of organizing; establish/maintain databases of non-union electrical workers, contractors and projects; efficiently respond to email, telephone, text and social media account enquiries; provide regular written and verbal reports on activities including accounting of hours; assist with leadership and labour education for new targets including orientation meetings for new permit members; follow BCLRB and CIRB procedures including (but not limited to) filing unfair labour practice charges and applications for certification; attend, organize and support regular organizing meetings; may report organizing activities in the IBEW’s Organizer Accountability and Reporting System (OARS) and the newer Action Builder system multiple times per week.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Self-Motivated with extensive knowledge and appreciation for the culture, benefits, and philosophy of Trade Unionism and IBEW 213 in particular (IBEW membership is preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable speaking in public
  • Efficient organizational skills with an ability to prioritize work assignments
  • Strong positive interpersonal and team building skills, able to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • Experienced in the use of standard office software and procedures
  • Ability to work irregular hours including long days, evenings and weekends when duties require
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle
  • Hold / acquire a passport with an ability to travel to the USA when required for training and conferences
  • Electrical trade craft and operational knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and rights
  • Disciplined in tracking issues, working with colleagues to respond to issues, and preparing regular progress reports
  • Sustains a healthy work-life balance
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing is a plus

Remuneration and Benefits:

  • Bi-weekly salary of $4,330.56 with accrued paid vacation days
  • Local 213 Electrical Workers Health & Welfare and Pension Benefits
  • Mileage and Travel expenses reimbursed
