Happy Labour Day – IBEW-FIOE 2228

Categories: IBEW, IBEW 2228, Ontario

We want to wish you all a Happy Labour Day.

It has been a busy year. We have accomplished a great deal, from working on collective agreement renewals and improving the way the Union is governed, to the day-to-day work of managing grievances and representing our members in all of their workplaces.

None of this happens without a team of volunteers, stewards, Unit Chairs and Executives. We sincerely appreciate all of the time, effort and work you put in on behalf of your fellow members.

But more than anything, our foundation is built upon an engaged membership. If you are reading this, you are one of those members, and we thank you for your involvement and support. Increasing the engagement of our members has always been our priority, and we will continue to find new ways to engage more of our members, make sure they are informed about their Union, and create opportunities for them to participate. The stronger that engagement becomes, the stronger our Union becomes.

We hope many of you are able to enjoy this day off. If you are working, we hope you can take a few minutes with your colleagues to reflect on what Labour Day represents.

In the 1850s, typical industrial workweeks were more than 70 hours. Over the decades that followed, workers organized and fought for shorter hours, better working conditions and a greater share of the benefits of their work. We will probably never be finished fighting for workers’ rights, but today is an opportunity to look back with pride at what workers have accomplished. We should never rest on our proverbial laurels, but we have earned a rest.

Happy Labour Day, everyone, and thank you for everything you do for IBEW 2228.

In Solidarity,

Jeff Wendt Business Manager & Financial Secretary IBEW Local 2228

Mohammed Osman President IBEW Local 2228
