ESA introduces new Ontario licensing and training grant for Indigenous electricians

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) has partnered with Indigenous Skills, Employment, Apprenticeship, and Development (ISEAD) to launch a new licensing and training grant to support Indigenous journeyperson electricians in Ontario.
The primary aim of the grant is to help Indigenous journeyperson electricians who are pursuing their Master Electrician (ME) licence, though ESA shared that the grant can also be used to assist in obtaining an Electrical Contractor (EC) licence for those looking to start their own electrical contracting business.
In addition to funding the first-year ME and EC licence fees, the program includes guidance and support on navigating the path to ESA licensure, online training solutions through ESA’s pre-master electrician course, and coverage of ME exam fees.
The program is open First Nations, Métis, and Inuit journeyperson electricians who have at least three years of trade experience, intent to pursue the ME license, and hold a valid Certificate of Qualification in one of the following areas: construction & maintenance electrician, domestic & rural electrician, industrial electrician, or powerline technician.
