Canada introduces Workforce Alliances for Energy and Electricity, Housing and Construction

Five new Workforce Alliances are set to be created by Canada’s federal government, with the goal of helping industries across the country navigate issues such as tariffs, skills shortages and supply chain disruptions.

Minister of Jobs and Families Patty Hajdu has announced the creation of five new Workforce Alliances in priority sectors, including Energy and Electricity, Housing and Construction, Transportation and Supply Chains, Mining and Minerals, and Care Economy.

These five new groups follow Prime Minister Mark Carney’s creation of an Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Alliance earlier this month. The goal of these Workforce Alliance initiatives is to bring together governments, industry stakeholders, and labour and training partners to address bottlenecks and catalyse investments in their respective industries, a press release read.

Discussions are currently being held between Minister Hajdu and associated officials with employers, unions, educational institutions, industry associations, and Indigenous partners to confirm leadership for all six Workforce Alliances, with selected personnel to be announced in the coming weeks.

“Canada’s workforce is strongest when employers and training partners work together. As external pressures continue to affect key sectors, these investments will help empower Canadian workers with the skills they need to adapt,” said Minister Hajdu. “Together, these initiatives will help drive major industrial and economic priorities and deliver tangible results for Canadian workers.”
