Business Manager’s update, Oct 17th 2025

Categories: IBEW, IBEW 2228, Ontario

Members of IBEW Local 2228,

I would like to begin by thanking everyone who participated in the recent electoral processes our Union has undertaken. Having now assumed office, I want to assure everyone that both our Business Office and our Board of Directors will be reviewing what has occurred, and we will be developing plans to ensure that future electoral processes are significantly improved. Details will be shared with the membership as this work progresses.

I have been in the Office for less than a week, and while I am working as quickly as possible to get up to speed on the many realities and issues that affect our membership, I ask that any members with outstanding matters that are not currently being addressed by one of our representatives please reach out to me directly.

I am also developing a timeline to implement the plans I outlined during my campaign. This will continue to take shape over time, and I look forward to sharing these plans and meeting with as many of you as possible in the weeks and months ahead.

One item I must mention now is that, after discussions with our new President and Executive Board, we have determined that the Budget Approval Process used in recent years would be impractical to implement within the timelines outlined in our Policy Manual. Specifically, the current policy would require translated budgets to be in the hands of all Unit Chairs by the end of this month. Given that many of these budgets must be prepared by Officers who have only recently assumed their roles, we believe that a delay of several months will allow for a more valuable result for the Local. More details will follow as the Board determines the next steps.

Thank you.
In solidarity,
Jeff Wendt
