BC Hydro seeks board members for $20 million fund in support of Peace Region agriculture

Categories: BC, Hydroelectricity

FORT ST. JOHN – BC Hydro is seeking applications for four agricultural producers to sit on the board of a $20 million fund to support agricultural production and agrifoods initiatives in the Peace Region.

The fund is part of Site C’s Agricultural Mitigation and Compensation Plan, which reflects BC Hydro’s recognition of the role agriculture plays in the Peace River region and the potential effects of Site C on agriculture.

Implementation of the fund begins this year, starting with formation of a 10-member funding board comprised of six appointees of regional agricultural associations or the Peace River Regional District, three members-at-large who are agricultural producers living in the Peace Region and one member who is a Peace River Valley agricultural producer.

The regional decision-making board will be responsible for disbursement of the fund. Members are expected to be selected in the spring.

A fund administrator will be appointed later this year to manage the fund and act as a secretariat to the board.

For more information on the fund and how to apply for one of the four member-at-large positions, please visit sitecproject.com/AgFund.
