Union-Led Advisory Table Final Report: Unions Power Prosperity
Categories: Canada
Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) fully support the recent work of the Union-Led Advisory Table and its commitment to ensuring workers are prepared for the future of the Canadian economy. As we transition to emerging industries and technologies, it is essential that workers have the necessary skills and support to thrive in new sectors.
The final report, Unions Power Prosperity, highlights critical recommendations that align workforce development strategies with industry needs, ensuring workers—especially those transitioning from declining sectors—are equipped with portable skills for growth opportunities. This is particularly important for women, under-represented groups, and older workers, who often face the greatest barriers to career advancement.
In light of ongoing tariff threats that could have significant impacts on key industries, collaboration between workers, unions, employers, and government is more crucial than ever. These recommendations are designed to help strengthen the workforce and ensure that all workers are prepared for the challenges ahead. As a member of the advisory table, CBTU stands firm in our belief that investing in workers is the key to Canada’s economic success. As we face the dual challenges of automation and a transition to a low-carbon economy, we look forward to the recommendations outlined in this report being implemented to help our members and all workers navigate these transitions successfully.
We thank Minister Steven MacKinnon for his leadership and recognize the tireless efforts of all Advisory Table members who brought their expertise and dedication to this important work. Together, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and thriving future for all Canadian workers.
