IBEW Local 773 has just received a major boost from the Province of Ontario! With over $5.5 million in funding from the provincial government’s Skills Development Fund (SDF), this investment will help build a brand-new training facility and provide essential support to local electrical workers.
The bulk of the funding—$4,748,066—will go toward constructing a 24,000-square-foot training center right here in Windsor. This state-of-the-art facility will be a game-changer for the community, providing a space for hands-on learning and development for future electricians.
But that’s not all—an additional $763,410 from the grant will be used to train new electrical workers and create pathways for apprentices to connect with employers in the region. This funding will help meet the increasing demand for skilled tradespeople, setting up workers for long-term success in a high-demand industry.
Karl Lovett, business manager for IBEW Local 773, expressed his enthusiasm for the funding: “Premier Ford has promised to support the trades, and he has more than delivered. Under Premier Ford’s leadership, the trades have grown, resulting in a more prosperous Ontario.”
This announcement also highlights the ongoing opportunities in Ontario’s trades sector. The Skills Development Fund is open for its fifth round of applications (Training Stream), and submissions are being accepted until October 4, 2024. If you’re interested in applying, you can do so through Transfer Payment Ontario.
This funding is a massive step forward in supporting local talent and ensuring Ontario remains at the forefront of trades training. Stay tuned for more updates on the construction and how this new facility will impact the community!
