Members of IBEW Local 2228,
I am planning to schedule virtual meetings with Stewards from every government department or employer where we have Stewards listed. I have already reached out to many of you, and those I have not yet contacted will soon be receiving an email or a phone call. I am doing this to increase my awareness of the many different realities experienced by our members across employers, across worksites, and across the country.
While I am reaching out specifically to Stewards, I encourage any member who wishes to contact me to do so at jeff.wendt@ibew2228.ca or by calling the office. Please feel free to reach out not only to identify issues but also to share your own experiences and perspectives.
On the matter of a Member’s Forum, it is my plan for our Union to assume administration of the Discord server that was set up several years ago by one of our former Officers. Administration by our Union will allow for secure member authentication and ensure that it operates under policies established by our membership. In the interest of transparency, I will be submitting a budget proposal for this initiative, which will go through our standard approvals process in the coming months.
I would also like to extend a few words of thanks. To all the new Officers who have stepped into their roles and are already getting up to speed and active, thank you. Thank you to all the returning Officers who are continuing their work and assisting the new Officers. To all the Units that have held, or will soon be holding, Unit elections, and to those members who are now moving into leadership positions, thank you for your engagement. I also want to thank our Office staff, including all Representatives, who are adjusting to my leadership while helping me adjust as well.
And finally, a special thanks to the Officers of our newest Unit, the National Capital Region (NCR), which was recently formed. Thank you, Lindsay, Idoko, and Mitch.
