Nasittuq wage arbitration update
Categories: IBEW, IBEW 2228, Ontario
Members of IBEW 2228,
I am pleased to share that our second day of arbitration regarding the wage re-opener for our Nasittuq members concluded earlier this week, on Monday. Unlike the first day, which was largely dedicated to testimony from our members, the second day focused on the Employer’s witnesses and provided our counsel with the opportunity to cross-examine them. With real-time support from our office and several members, our counsel did an admirable job ensuring that the Arbitrator was presented with a clear and accurate account of the facts and the realities faced by our members.
With the evidentiary phase of the hearing now concluded, the matter will proceed to the submissions stage. Both sides now need to agree on dates to exchange and file their written briefs. Once those briefs are submitted, the Arbitrator will review everything and then issue a decision. We do not yet have a firm timeline for when that decision will be released, but I will keep you informed as soon as we have more clarity.
Although the process is not yet complete, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this effort. Our strength as a Union lies in our numbers. The collaboration and preparation demonstrated throughout this case reflect that strength, and I remain optimistic about the outcome.
In Solidarity,
Jeff Wendt
