The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 120 London has been awarded $694,546 in funding from the Ontario government through the Skills Development Fund (SDF). This investment will help provide 91 participants with essential safety certifications, electrical skills, and workplace readiness to pursue in-demand jobs in the construction sector.

The announcement was made by Premier Doug Ford as part of a broader $2.6 million investment in London and surrounding areas, aimed at preparing workers for good-paying, future-ready careers in construction and manufacturing. The initiative is part of Ontario’s ongoing $2.5 billion Skills Development Fund, which was created to give workers the training and tools they need to overcome barriers, advance their careers, and qualify for specialized roles.

Since its launch in 2021, the SDF has supported more than one million workers across the province. The latest funding round will ensure that workers in London are equipped to take on critical projects, including those impacted by U.S. tariffs and global economic uncertainty.

“This round of the Skills Development Fund demonstrates Premier Ford’s and Minister Piccini’s commitment to the skilled trades. This funding will help ensure our apprentices and journeypersons remain some of the highest skilled electricians in the country. It also ensures that our workforce is prepared to take on large-scale projects, including the PowerCo plant right here in the London region.”
John Gibson, Business Manager of IBEW Local 120

The program offered through IBEW Local 120 will deliver free training that focuses on both technical skills and workplace readiness. With this funding, apprentices and journeypersons will be able to build on their existing knowledge, obtain specialized certifications, and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.
