One of the stars of the hit HGTV show “Holmes on Homes” has died after battling health issues for several years. On Wednesday, the show’s host Mike Holmes confirmed that electrician Frank Cozzolino died last week at the age of 56.

Holmes didn’t provide an exact cause of death, but did say his longtime friend died “suddenly” and “went through hell” in recent years.

“Frank has gone through hell,” Holmes said in an Instagram post. “I mean he’s had a liver six years ago, that liver failed, he had to go in and get another liver. It was touch and go, we thought for sure that he wasn’t going to make it, and he came back. And all of a sudden due to complications, he has passed away Dec. 4.”

In the video, Holmes describes first meeting Cozzolino and how the Toronto native just wanted to help homeowners, even though the show couldn’t pay him much. In a separate Instagram post, Holmes spoke about how easy it was to work with Cozzolino and how he made even the hardest jobs fun.

“Frank made us better. His impact will live on in every home he helped. Frank could walk into the toughest electrical disaster, crack a joke in his style, and suddenly the whole room felt lighter,” Holmes wrote. “That’s just who he was.”

“Holmes on Homes” aired on HGTV in the U.S., Canada and other countries for seven seasons, ending its run in 2008. At one point the program was the highest rated show on HGTV Canada. Cozzolino appeared in several episodes over the years and became a beloved guest star on the show.

As Holmes continued to star in various remodeling shows, Cozzolino would also appear. The duo’s latest efforts together came on a 2024 episode of “Holmes Family Rescue.” Aside from appearing on the TV shows, Cozzolino ran a successful electrical company in Canada.

Cozzolino is survived by his partner Lisa and his daughters Filomena and Alexandria.
