Hayden Etienne Obituary (1944 – 2023)
Categories: Canada
Hayden Peter Etienne came into our world on May 6, 1944 to his mom, Edith Mills, in Wesley, Dominica. His sister, Daisy Plenderleith, was barely 3 years old. His dad, Leonard Etienne, was a seaman and rarely saw Hayden. The last he saw him, Hayden was 4 years old.
Hayden was partially raised by his Grandmother, Laurana Mills, in Wesley, Dominica. Hayden actually walked on the beach to and from school.
Later, Hayden joined his mom and sister in Barbados where he graduated high school at the age of 16. He went to work at The Flying Fish Club right at the waters edge.
While Hayden was working there, he met a very wealthy young man from France, Gerard Leclery, who was doing documentaries around the world on a yacht. He offered Hayden a job to work on the yacht. Hayden was thrilled and accepted the job. Hayden’s mom cried and cried when he left; she was so scared because he was so young. But independent Hayden happily took off on his adventure of a lifetime!
Hayden went around the world 6 times! He had many unbelievable adventures and meeting so many people including Brigitte Bardot in the waters in London. She too was on a yacht. He even got to know her very well. He has documented all of his adventures in 3 books on his laptop.
The yacht caught fire eventually and burned completely. He joined his friend and coworker on another yacht heading to America. After arriving he went to college and became an American citizen as soon as he possibly could. He lived in Huntington Beach, Irvine, and eventually Atascadero.
Hayden created his own successful carpet cleaning business, “Clean Your Carpets.” And then he became a full electrician.
Although Hayden never married, he had many gorgeous girlfriend’s around the world and in America. He had some life long friendships with a couple of them. One of his long term forever friend, Linda D. Walker, stayed by his side until the last day of his life.
By those who love Hayden, he will be remembered for his kindness, his passion, his caring, and his adventurous spirit. He loved good food and red wine. He cherished eating fish, and he would even splurge on Uni occasionally. He loved baguettes dipped in virgin olive oil, with cheeses, and red wine. He was a giver, never a taker.
As one of his ex girlfriends said one time to Linda, “He is one in a million.” Oh how right she was. He truly was one in a million.
Hayden was preceded in death by his mom, Laurana Mills. Left behind are his sister, Daisy Plenderleith, his niece and nephew David Joseph and Sandra Joseph, who all reside in Canada. He left behind many cousins in Barbados, and one in Dominica.
Although Hayden will be terribly missed, he is free from the body that began failing him beginning with dementia. He had been so physical and healthy! He was even a 10th Degree Black Belt!
Hayden had read the Bible many times, but he was also very spiritual. He always claimed that we are from way out there above the planets, above the universes and amongst the stars. He is surely out there trying to make everything and everywhere a better place.
