BC Hydro’s GO Fund improves supportive housing and online access in the Peace Region
Categories: BC, Hydroelectricity
FORT ST. JOHN: BC Hydro is contributing more than $12,000 to support two Peace Region non-profit groups through the Site C project’s Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund. The funds will go toward providing support to women recovering from addiction and improving public access to computers at the Fort St. John Public Library.
Recipients receiving the grants include:
- The Pentecostals of Fort St. John Society Grace House Project: $10,000 to renovate and furnish Grace House, which provides transitional housing and mental health support to women recovering from addiction. The renovations will help to provide vulnerable women a safe home for a transition period of nine to 12 months.
- The Fort St. John Public Library Association’s Public Computer Server Replacement Project: $2,459 to upgrade the library’s outdated computer server. The library’s computers regularly serve homeless and semi-homeless populations in the Fort St. John area, as well as low-income children and their families. The upgrade will allow the library to continue to provide free internet access to the community, including vulnerable populations.
To date, 67 projects have received $585,025 from the $800,000 fund, which was established in September 2016 to support non-profit organizations in the north and south Peace Region throughout construction of Site C.
Applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis and funds are distributed quarterly. For more information on the fund, including past recipients and application details, please visit sitecproject.com/gofund.
