BC Hydro awards remaining contracts for Site C balance of plant work

VANCOUVER: BC Hydro today announced it has awarded four contracts for the balance of plant work on the Site C project. With these awards, the procurement process for all six balance of plant contracts for the Site C project is complete.
Three of the contracts were awarded to Nanaimo-based F&M Installations Ltd. and the other was awarded to Aecon-Flatiron-Dragados-EBC (AFDE) Partnership.
The four contracts are:
• Architectural – F&M Installations Ltd. will be responsible for the architectural walls, fixtures, fittings and finishings to complete the powerhouse and operations building. The contract is valued at $29 million and work is expected to be complete in 2024.
• Fire detection and protection – F&M Installations Ltd. will design, supply, install and commission the fire detection and protection systems. The contract is valued at $29.5 million and work is expected to be completed in 2024.
• HVAC – F&M Installations Ltd. will design, supply, install and commission the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the powerhouse, intake and spillways structures. The contract is valued at $36 million and work is expected to be completed in 2024.
• Permanent upstream fishway and other out structures – AFDE will supply, install and support the commissioning of the permanent upstream fishway and other structures outside of the powerhouse, intake and spillways structures. The contract is valued at $87 million, and work is expected to be complete in 2024.
AFDE Partnership is a group of four construction companies with extensive experience in dam and hydropower construction. AFDE is building the generating station and spillways civil works portion of the Site C project.
F&M Installations Ltd. is an industrial contractor with extensive experience across western Canada, specializing in the construction of generation, transmission and distribution projects for utility providers. The company has a long history of working on BC Hydro projects, including the Site C project.
Both contractors are committed to creating Indigenous and apprentice employment and training opportunities.
The balance of plant contracts are required to complete the construction of the generating station and spillways, along with other related facilities on the Site C project.
BC Hydro is committed to following rigorous standards for all its procurement activities. All balance of plant contracts for the Site C project were posted to BC Bid and awarded following a comprehensive evaluation and due diligence process.
